K M GAVAGHAN
Kevin is an artist living in North London. He works with oil paint and produces images that reference his life growing up from the 1970s in a large Irish family whilst coping with the complexity of life with Tourette’s and anxiety related illnesses.
His work largely reflects his thoughts, dreams and emotions he has felt about his life and his position within the world as the son of Irish migrants. His work touches on subjects such as growing up with Tourette’s and anxiety, religion and politics within the Irish community, relationships and the loss of loved ones as well the challenges we face but hide from our public persona.
He has CSR in his eyesight which causes his vision to distort. Kevin has chosen to embrace this and incorporates this into his paintings which you can see in several of his paintings.
He paints organically, straight from thought inception to the canvas and because of this, it allows his images to grow from the subconscious, building on and reflecting his own, unstructured growth in life. His images continue to develop throughout the process often changing their personality many times before settling on what he believes reflects a truth within his thoughts.
